It’s easier to ignore the clutter of self-will and attachments that collect in our life if we do not bring the light to them. Once we see what is there, we can begin a new way of living.

Renunciation does not require renouncing the world or our duties in it. The abode of the true renunciate is the cave of the heart. Everything that is done with nonattachment and love for God in our hearts is renunciation.

Love for God is the antidote for the suffering that comes from attachment to things. Detaching from desires can be an austerity practiced with great effort and resolve, or it can happen effortlessly, like the wave returning to the ocean.
